How long does it take to setup SurfBest?

Usually, it you will get a response in under 4 hours to online applications. New accounts are processed in batches many times a day, from early in the morning until late at night, in order to get your order through as quickly as possible. Occasionally there may be delays for various reasons, and an account may, on rare occasion, take up to twelve hours to process. If you have not received your setup information within twelve hours, chances are we either did not receive the application, or the email address we have on file to send the information to is incorrect.

In the event that a "Welcome Email" bounces back to us, we generally re-send the information, and also try to reach you via phone. If you do apply for an account, but do not receive your setup information, please email surfbest@surfbest.net, or call us at (713) 952-5666. Please do not assume that the account is not setup; we may have received your information, setup and activated the account, and if for some reason the email does not bounce back to us we will assume that you've received the information and are not having any problems, and will proceed with billing you for the service.

Do I need the setup utility (setup disk)?

No, it is not necessary to use our software to connect to SurfBest. Our tech support staff can walk you through the configuration, or you can view the instructions on this page for the given Operating System (version of Windows, etc.) that you have.

Click the "Go Back" link at the top of this page to return to the table of contents, and click on "How do I connect with..." for the operating system you have, and then just follow the instructions. You can configure everything whether you're connected to the Internet or not, and it will not affect your current connection if you're still online with another provider.

Can I connect with Linux, WebTV, or my PDA?

Yes, you can connect with a WebTV, PDA, Playstation 2, or a Linux-based computer.
As only few of our members are using such devices, we do not offer active support for them.
However, if you are familiar enough with your device, you can most certainly configure the connection manually, without using the SurfBest Setup Utility..

How do I uninstall AOL?

It is recommended that you visit AOL's website and seek support from AOL directly, as they are much more familiar with their own software than SurfBest.
AOL's instructions and guidance for this will be much more thorough and specific.

However, you can uninstall most of AOL's software by clicking Start, Settings, Control Panel.
Next, double-click "Add Remove Programs", and you should see AOL on the list.
Select it, and choose "Remove".
That should do it!

Can I choose my own username rather than sfb####@etc?

Unfortunately, due to the system we currently use to manage and track accounts, we're unable to
provide changeable usernames. All usernames with SurfBest must follow the sfb####@network
schema.

What does SurfBest's "Multiple Networks" mean?

One of the SurfBest advantages is the fact that we use multiple networks. Each network is
independantly owned and operated, so if one network were to experience a problem or outtage,
we have several other networks standing by. Our networks are referred to as SFB1, SFB2, SFB3, etc.
As we're always expanding the networks we offer may change from time to time.
You can refer to www.surfbest.net/access.htm for a break down of our current networks, and also
to view the most current list of available numbers, by network

After I  connect with SurfBest, nothing happens.

It sounds like the dial up connection is successful, and you are able to connect to us.
All that our service provides is a connection to the Internet, after which you can use Internet Explorer or Netscape, for example, to browse web-pages on the web. Next time you attempt to connect, and you see the connection window shrink to the bottom right of the screen, see if there is a small icon with two computer screens near your clock, on the bottom right.
If so, you're connected.
Internet Explorer comes with windows, so you should have it. Open the program by double-clicking the blue E shaped icon on your desktop, and you're browsing the web!
